Tick, Tock. Tick, Tock. Tick, Tock. Time is neutral. Progress is not inevitable. Time can be used constructively or it can be destructive.
Progress as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once noted does not come without struggle, it never has and it never will.
In a few short months, we will be entering the "Post Obama" era. These last eight years have produced some interesting and challenging moments for the nation and the world.
Historians will write about the Obama years in great detail. Critics and supporters will share their perspectives on the "Obama years".
The purpose of this post this today is to raise the question of what is the "plan" that our leadership are developing for the "Post Obama" years? There is a tendency in our community to not take the longer view of history.
If one was to read what occurred during "Post Reconstruction", you would discover that our leadership was not prepared for the "Black Codes" and the emergence of a vicious right-wing backlash.
Right now, all over the nation, in ever state, there should be the convening of the intelligentsia.
People who reflect, ponder on what has occurred in the last eight years and develop a blue print for the next twenty years.
On January 20, 2017, a new president will be sworn into office. The current First Family and the Attorney General will all become part of the past.
The future of a community will either be determined by people who decide to become the master of their own fate or surely someone else will decide it for them.
It is widely known that the day that President Obama was sworn into office a group of prominent Republicans met in Washington, D. C. and they declared they would do everything possible to stop him from having a successful presidency.
The current Majority Leader in the Senate said that his priority was to see to it that the president not have a second term. Please note that it was not to create prosperity for all but deny a successful Obama presidency.
You do not have to be cynical to know that there are forces who do not wish the best for everyone.
I strongly believe that we should be mobilizing and energizing our community to vote in November. Yet, I am fully aware, that is not enough.
It is important that leadership develop a clear, precise and effective "Post Obama" plan. I leave you with this thought.
Two young men, were running and came upon an old man who was sitting on the side of the road. The old man beckoned to the young men to stop and talk to him.
One of the runners said to the other, "We do not have time to stop and listen to this old man" and they kept running.
The old man looked down and muttered to himself, "I wish that those boys had stop and listened, because I have been down the road and I know what is on the other side of the hill, hungry lions".
There once was a song that had lyrics that said, "stop, look and listen". I truly hope and pray that people today, will stop, look and listen. They may learned something about what is coming in the "Post Obama" years.
Information is power. Truth is revealing. Justice is indivisible. No one will do for you, those things that you must do for yourself.
